Can't rid PC of quarantined viruses

Upon booting my PC, Norton AntiVirus told me I had a virus and would I like to quarantine it, which I did. I was invited to fix it but was then told it couldn't be repaired. I later discovered that a fix for this particular virus - Kakworm - was available and I downloaded it from Symantec and ran it. But I am still receiving the message that it cannot be repaired. A scan of the hard drive indicates that there are no viruses present but Kakworm is still shown as 'in quarantine'. How can I get rid of it?

The best thing to do with any files in quarantine is to delete them. Quarantine is just a safe place to put files that contain a virus until they can be repaired. However, some files that are infected by a virus cannot be repaired (made virus-free) and it looks as if Kakworm is one of them. The only way to get rid of the virus is to delete the infected file.

The fix you downloaded is probably the Microsoft fix that stops the virus from activating. It's important to install it to stop your computer getting the virus again. However, it won't remove the quarantined file containing the original copy of the virus. You must do that from within Norton AntiVirus.
